MY TEA CUP is full of water
    and the water is brown
it is tea,
    but it is still water

and there are TWO OTHER CUPS
that are beside me
THEY ARE GLASSES
one of which is filled with water
        and the other is dry

and beside THOSE GLASS CUPS there a is a plate
that is dirtied with mayo
     and ketchup
and a small oily mark on the rim
          that is yellow
because of the curry i use on eggs

the napkin is dirty and folded neatly
it is the most perfect napkin folded
to perfect - it is really neat
it is encyclopedic

the world is interested in it
i can't stop looking over at it now
and italo calvino is sitting beside me
and so is marston bates
and so is my book
and so is santa

santa is holding MY TEA!!
and i still smell the bacon
coming from the kitchen

and the sun just circled
around the milky way recently
just a couple of weeks ago

and it took about
        200 MILLION YEARS
                for that to happen!

and back then nobody had eyes
when the first symbol was made
and the economist kenneth boulding said
that the an aggregation of similar items
                enclosed by a picket fence
                    of definition with an entrance
                        by way of birth
                    AND
                        A N D
an exit by way of death
was what he said about population

and i THOUGHT
about the street show
and then i THOUGHT
about the farms outside of the city
if there were any farms at all

and the symbol that was made 600 million years ago
was erased
by an imitator
and it was done with carelessness
it was pretentious
IT WAS LOUSY IMITATION!

now that the sun circled the milky way
three
different
times

we now have eyes
and symbols

make more sense! to us now
SO_MUCH_SENSE

that we are dumb to them
because we never got
to EXPERIENCE
what it was like to be blind
and make a symbol

before a symbol
ever
even
existed
